SEWed Up!...more slippers for baby girl

Slippers for my 'baby girl', who will be six years old tomorrow! Happy Birthday!

I have been promising her that I would make her new slippers. I used blue jeans, scrap fabric for the lining, batting, and non-slip grip for the outer soles.

I traced her foot right onto the jeans and cut out the soles in denim, non-slip grip and batting. I then cut out the slipper top in denim and the lining fabric.

Right sides together, I sewed the heels of each slipper top piece. Opened the seams and pressed. With right sides together of slipper top (denim and lining fabric), I sewed the inside top. Turned fabric right sides out and pressed.

Added a 3" piece of 3/4" elastic, at the back between the lining and denim. Stretching and sewing 2" past the center seam on both sides. This is so that the slipper will not fall off of the heel. Basted the bottom of the slipper top closed. Made another basting stitch around the toe area for gathering. I sewed a nice trim on the outside.

I sandwiched the slipper soles (non-slip grip on wrong side, batting, denim right side up). Sew through all thickness. Put right side of slipper top to wrong side of sole sandwich (which is the non-slip grip side). Sew through all thickness. Turn right side out. You're done!

She loves them!

SEWed Up!...and Knitting a Scarf

I had a little of this pretty yarn and decided to knit this scarf. The yarn is as soft as a cloud. It's seafoam green with colorful specs. I have a little more, which I will add to the collar and bottom of a sweater that I am STILL knitting.

SEWed Up!...Grocery Tote w/matching Mini Carryall

I love this bag! It was made from sheets!

While thrifting with my husband, I found this colorful and fun sheet and made my grocery tote. I added a mini carryall for change, I.D. and lip gloss. I make the mini carryalls because I do not want to carry a purse and my bags. I particularly like this style of tote because of it's wide handle/strap - it's 3" wide. It's a good size bag and measures 20"w x 20"l and the mini carryall measures 13"w x 5"l.

I really try to remember and carry my bags to the grocery store. The totes I've made from canvas are kept in my car so that I will not forget. My prettier ones stay in the house for mall or other shopping.

SEWed Up!...rice bag/ergonomic arm rest

Last week, I suffered with carpel tunnel pain which disabled me from sewing! I was not a happy girl. Two days earlier, I had cut all the fabric to make rice bags (including one for myself). The only bag completed at that time, was my own. Rice bags are such a good thing! You can use them for hot/cold use on joints, swelling and bruising. Just pop them in the microwave or freezer and place on your 'boo-boo'.

Well, I couldn't complete the bags with the pain, but I needed to get on the computer to do some work. Took the one bag I made for myself, popped in the microwave and set it in front of my keyboard to use as an arm rest/pad. The heat helped so much! So, my rice bag sits in front of my keyboard ALL of the time.







So, now that my arm is all better and I can sew - which makes me a HAPPY girl! I am completing the remaining rice bags for my shop.

SEWed Up!...slippers

It's absolutely freezing for Florida. Temperature last night was 30 degrees and it will only warm up to 51 degrees today. B-r-r-r-r-r-r! Kids went back to school, after being home for 2 days (including the weekend). Now, I can breathe and finish some projects.

These slippers are so cute! I made them to fit a toddler. Not much fabric to use; 2 fat quarters. Felt for slipper sole; rickrack and a little bit of elastic for back. They fit my friend's daughter perfectly!

I will soon make a pair to fit an adult. Since adults are not carried much, I will sew gripper soles on the adult sizes. I am thinking of using blue jeans. We have several pairs that are recyclable. Gotta stay eco-friendly!

SEWed Up!...and Knitting

Been working on this knitting project - a sweater. It's my first time using DPNs (double pointed needles). I think I've taken the armhole section apart 4x. It's my first sweater. It's been a challenge and I am determined to complete this project! It will have a button closure front, short-sleeved and I will be using a 'fuzzy' yarn in a lighter green for the edging on the bottom, around the sleeves and neckline. It should be 'fabulous' when I complete!

I work on this sweater, when things become a little stressful in my daily life. Knitting is my creative therapy. I can clear my head and work through things. I just sit, talk with God and knit!

I've been having a great time going through my fabric stashes and project list. I've also been doing a lot of swapping and picking up fabrics through our community freecycle. (http://freecycle.org)

It's a great organization! Instead of our unwanted items going to a landfill, people post what they would like to have, or to donate items - all free! "One (wo)man's trash is another (wo)man's treasure." For all you seamstress' and crafters out there, this is a great way to acquire fabrics and other items for your projects for re-purposing and being eco-friendly!

Well, I've started on my projects for this year! I had a great time going home for Christmas and being with my family!




This doll is for my second Godmother. I've named her Organica! Her body is made from a hibiscus print and her hair is chenille yarn. She even has pretty earrings! I think her name fits her exactly!
